On April 12, the first meeting of the working group on the creation of a parliamentary educational center took place. It was chaired by Andriy Parubiy, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.

Development of the Center is one of the key activities of the USAID RADA Program.

Opening the meeting, Andriy Parubiy emphasized that the role of the educational center is extremely important at this stage of development of Ukraine. He thanked all members of the parliaments and representatives of technical assistance projects who supported the idea of creating such a center and joined the project implementation.

Director of the USAID RADA Program Igor Kogut noted that development of the educational center is one of the main tasks of the Program. The Program has already created a number of educational materials on parliamentarianism that can be used in the work of the center.

Maryna Tereshchuk, head of the newly created educational center, presented the general concept and vision of the center's development.

Recently the center has held its first educational event - an interactive excursion for schoolchildren around the Parliament.

The goal of the educational parliamentary center is to raise awareness among citizens, including students and young people, about the principles and functions of parliament and democracy. The best international practices are used in its preparation.

It is expected that the center will promote the dissemination of knowledge about the role and functions of the Verkhovna Rada among different population groups and about parliamentarianism in general.

USAID RADA Program: Responsible Accountable Democratic Assembly is being implemented by the East Europe Foundation with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
